Peace Despite the Pressure!

January 20, 2017 by Wendy Bryan 2 Comments

Our neighbours are moving out. They sold their house a few months ago and are in the cleaning out and packing stage. I don’t know them well – we’ve had a few conversations over the fence and shared lawn mowing of the nature strip outside our homes and I’ve found them to be nice people and they’ve been great neighbours.

Sadly, the pressure of moving home is getting to them I think. There’s been quite a few loud shouting occurrences, raging arguments and tossing of verbal abuses back and forth of late and they’ve been outside, in their driveway and not bothered to tone it down so neighbours don’t hear their private business. This tells me they’re awfully stressed.

Moving house can be hell but it can also be a positive time of getting rid of past clutter and looking forward to renewal. How you deal with it will come down to how much you’ve mastered practicing calmness on a daily basis. We all fear change (on some level) and stepping out into the unknown, but it doesn’t have to be a horror story. Exhaustion comes easily when packing up a home and setting up a new one, but that doesn’t mean it has to be so highly stressful it causes anxiety and anguish.

Wayne Dyer used to say “if you squeeze an orange, what comes out?” Obviously the answer is orange juice. His meaning  behind the question was, whatever is in a human, is what will come out when squeezed/pressured.  You might manage to keep your fiery emotions under control when things are going smoothly, but what will happen when situations arise that challenge your happiness and contentment? How will you deal with it? Will you get angry, blame and maybe even hurl abuse at others – because that’s what’s in you, or will you take some deep breaths, remain calm and act thoughtfully rather than reacting out of control?

Mindfulness meditation helps you to be fully present in the here and now. It allows you to remain calm and see each situation with clarity and deep understanding. Practicing Mindfulness helps you to respond to situations and events with compassion – for yourself and others.

Mindfulness brings the opportunity to truly be there in kindness for yourself and your loved ones and practicing Mindfulness ensures that Every Day Gets Better.

That’s a good example of stress. I’ve also heard neighbors yelling now and then. Modern life can stressful. I find that keeping things simple also helps, not only doing one thing at a time, but thinking about one thing at a time, too, which is even harder. 🙂

Yes sadly I think there’s many people who don’t understand the dangerous effects of that kind of stress on the body. They also don’t know how to deal with pressure, which is sad.
